Picture of Neptune Statue. Suny Maritime Collection on permanent loan Sailors' Snug Harbor, picture taken Robert Mitchell, Medium Digital, 3/17/2021.
The Neptune Fountain was cast in 1892 by John W. Fiske Iron Works, New York City. It was cast in zinc and painted bronze. Over the years, the statue deteriorated. To preserve what was left of the statue, it was brought indoors, and today it is on display in the Snug Harbor Visitor's Center in the former Administration building (Building C) (Gobetz). "A replica, based on original plans using historical photographs and wax casts from the original zinc monument, was recast by the Modern Art Foundry in Queens" (Gobetz). In 1994 the replica was placed on the pedestal in the original fountain at Sailors' Snug Harbor (Gobetz).
