John Slefria

John Slefria was born in Rhode Island and worked as a merchant sailor for 38 years. His last position was Master and he last went to Sea in 1872. He shipped from Baltimore Harbor and had family on Park Avenue in Baltimore MD

John came to Snug Harbor when he was 70 years old on March 19th, 1878. John was signed in by Thomas Melville Governor of Snug Harbor and would reside at the Harbor for 14 years until his death. John is buried in Snug Harbor Cemetery at Plot 6, Row 5, number 5 grave. His grave is marked on the cemetery map as 1802.
