The Folk Art Painting is a copy of a painting done by Issac Sheffield of James F. Smith (Colby, 68). James Smith accompanied his father on an 1838 whaling voyage onboard the Ship Chelsea. James Smith is shown wearing a penguin skin coat brought back from Desolation Island. In the background of the Painting is the Ship Chelsea. The original Painting is in the Lyman Allyn Art Museum (Colby, 68)
